Webb9 dec. 2024 · To adjust for wartime shocks, we identify U.S. wars as either major or minor based on the magnitude of the increase in U.S. military spending during each war. Controlling for wages as a proxy for productivity, we then compare these historical periods using regression analysis. Webbadjustment programmes have forced the ‘developing world’ to set market forces free, and open their economies to free trade and foreign investment, while promoting the ‘liberal’ virtues of elections, multi-party politics, the rule of law and ‘good governance’.
